Morgan & West have returned to the Pegasus Theatre with a show packed with dazzling routines, well-honed audience interplay and oodles of charm for a perfect seasonal treat. Their Great Big Christmas Magic Show is a thrill that, while familiar for those who’ve seen the time traveling duo before, is no less delightful.

Moving at a brisk pace, the show is built around a series of magic routines in various levels of complexity. Each impresses and it’s nigh on impossible to work out how much of what takes place is achieved. As well as the marvelous magical moments, the duo’s performance is held together by wonderful interplay from them, each comfortably fitting the roles they inhabit. Morgan is the friendlier of the two, basking in the warmth of the audience with a cheeky humour that seems to grow through our encouragement, whilst West has a barely contained disdain for us, gently insulting the children (who bask in some more mean-spirited words). I particularly enjoyed wordplay early on that seemed designed to infuriate Mr West as much as possible.

There are some changes made to fit their Christmas timing, such as a running gag of stopping one of the duo from singing and a much larger presence for Santa (from the opening to audience suggestions). But really this is the best of both worlds - a joyful family friendly theatrical extravaganza (and Morgan and West make a fantastic case for the power of live entertainment) that is also perfect for whatever stage of festivities one is at. This would be great fun for a Scrooge as well as a Buddy (the Elf).

My six year old joined me for this show and enjoyed it even more than me, with a high point being one of her suggestions taken by Mr Morgan. She felt the show was funny with the stand out routines being the ones involving umbrellas and pink milk. Plus she found the finale spectacular and gained the ambition to become a magician when she’s older. One of the highlights for her was to meet the duo at the end and have her photo taken with them.
