Errors in email addresses

You're trying to enter your email address somewhere on Daily Info (eg when placing an ad) and the system doesn't want to accept it (if this is not the problem, try our FAQs page or contact us for help).

Does the error look like this?

Or like this?

If your email address has special characters in it (eg miranda.rose+my(first)[email protected] or [email protected], you may get this pop up message asking you if you're sure that it's correct.

This is to warn people who have made a typo while adding their email address, which happens more often than you would believe. It looks like the image above on the left.

If you genuinely have a slightly strange email address, just click cancel and carry on. If you have indeed made a mistake in typing your address, click OK (or cancel) and correct it. It should not prevent you from carrying on with what you're trying to do - if it does, please get in touch.
Now that practically any special character is theoretically allowable in an email address (although, if you're setting up a new email address, it's worth bearing in mind that many mailservers may still have difficulty with unusual characters), we're giving most funny-looking email addresses the benefit of the doubt.

We do still have a blocker in effect though, for those occasions when the system is sure the email address entered must be wrong, eg when there's no @ sign in it. This error looks like the image above on the right (the line of red text which says "The email address you have entered is not valid. Please enter it again").

If you're getting this error but you're sure your email address is right, please get in touch! It would be very helpful to know what browser you're using (eg Firefox 3.0.5, Internet Explorer 7 and so on).
