Since Christmas is still a way off, our focus this week is on shops where you can buy your loved one their big present. Oxford Wood Recycling has a range of unique, hand-crafted furniture, as well as all types of reclaimed timber in their Wood Shop, so they're the place to go if you're feeling up to making something yourself! We spoke to Richard Snow, CEO of Oxford Wood Recycling
Why did you start Oxford Wood Recycling?
We are an environmental social enterprise. We wanted to address wood waste going to landfill and to recover wood for reuse. We also loved the social enterprise model of Brighton Wood Recycling, and thought that Oxfordshire would love it too!
What do you like best about being based In Oxfordshire?
We formed in 2005, and OWR have been trading from Abingdon since 2015. Oxfordshire's a busy and dynamic county to work in. Plenty of opportunity and a lot of environmental action and activity.
Do you think Oxfordshire is a good place to run a small business?
It's one of the best places because of the business-to business-opportunities, although it's an expensive place to have premises.
What's the best thing about running a small business?
Employing people.
What’s the biggest challenge?
Employing people.
What's the funniest thing that's happened in the shop?
We like it when builders come in and buy back their waste wood.
