Advent Calendar 2023
Since its publication in 1843 Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol has become a key part of our Christmas DNA. The chilly Victorian ghost story often finds itself adapted on stage and screen, and this year is no exception.

One of the big festive productions in Oxford is Creation Theatre’s take on the text. The company’s joyful, anarchic and heart-warming Christmas shows feel a perfect fit for the story, particularly when we reach Fezziwig’s party. The take over of the North Wall stage for December promises to be a rollercoaster of emotions. Don't forget to check out our review of the show before you go. Alternatively there’s the rollicking take from Dickens Theatre Company at the Aylesbury Waterside, with two actors taking on over 30 characters for a humorous version.

But year on year, Daily Info finds ourselves returning to one adaptation in particular. None other then The Muppet Christmas Carol. A poignant version, filled with warmth and humour whilst retain the melancholy of the original text, it has been 31 years since Michael Caine uttered ‘humbug’ and every year you’ll find our resident movie guru weeping his way through the film’s climax. It’s back in cinemas and is the perfect seasonal treat for audiences.
