Advent Calendar 2024
New year, new... theatre? That’s right: we're taking a peek at what's on stage in early 2025!
Starting with Last Rites from the 15th of January and the North Wall Arts Centre. This gripping and moving solo show follows Arjun, a Deaf man travelling from the UK to India to carry out his father’s funeral rites. The non-verbal piece uses physical theatre to explore grief, identity and a complex father-son relationship.
Relationships - albeit of the professional variety - are also at the heart of Mike Bartlett’s Bull, which is being revived at the Old Fire Station the following week. The tense and knotty play follows three employees as they compete to keep their jobs and explores how office politics can darken into something more malicious.
Moving on to February, the forever iconic Chicago brings all that jazz back to Oxford via the New Theatre. The sizzling 1920s-set tale of crime, greed, showmanship, and an irrepressible lust for fame feels just as fresh, glamorous and funny as when it first debuted.
Finally March brings with it the first buds of spring, and the blooming hilarious Pride and Predjudice* (sort of). The affectionate, all-female send-up of Austen’s beloved work has gotten rave reviews in the past; and now you can judge for yourself as a new tour brings it to the Oxford Playhouse.
Last Rites: North Wall Arts Centre, Wed 15th - Fri 17th Jan, 7.30pm. Tickets £12 - £20.
Bull: Old Fire Station, Sat 24th Jan, 7.30pm and Sun 25th Jan, 4pm. Tickets £15 - £19.
