As part of our Great Big Christmas Show Giveaway, Daily Info are giving away tickets to see Jack and the Beanstalk at the Oxford Playhouse. We sat down with the creatives behind this show and see what they have in store for audiences this winter.
Daily Info: What does the Oxford Playhouse have in store this Christmas?
As always, The Playhouse has a wonderful pantomime for everyone to enjoy, and this year… it’s GIGANTIC! Climb to new heights with Jack and the Beanstalk, full of infectious laughter, brilliant storytelling, singing, dancing, and, of course, cheering for the goodies and booing for the baddies! Get ready for fabulous festive fun, ice-cream and a generous helping of audience participation. Oh, and we mustn’t forget Eileen the cow!
DI: What's Jack and the Beanstalk all about?
Poor Jack just can’t seem to help getting into trouble! His mum, the larger-than-life Dame Mary, is already at her wits’ end with him, and now he’s really landed himself in it by selling the family cow to a stranger for a handful of old beans. But hang on a minute! Those mysterious beans have started to grow... and grow... and GROW.
Come along to The Playhouse this festive season to join Jack and his friends as they scale the beanstalk and take on a giant, in this tale of adventure, bravery, and magical transformations!
DI: What sort of panto fun can audiences expect with this year's show?
We are delighted to see the return of the production team that brought audiences the glittering Cinderella panto last year, with Toby Hulse returning to direct for a second time and Alasdair Buchan as our Dame once again!
Audiences should keep a watchful eye out for unexpected sweeties dropping from the sky, an unruly cow, chaotic cookery, and all of the usual playful pandemonium that has become synonymous with the Oxford Playhouse Pantomime. Jack and the Beanstalk is a heart-warming story with bags of energy and oodles of fun.
DI: When approaching a Christmas show what are the key things a production has to get right?
We hope that if we manage to give people the comforting feel of a traditional panto with just a sprinkling of surprise, plenty of opportunity to join in the fun, and a grin on their faces as they leave the theatre, then we’ve done our job well!
DI: Sum up Jack and the Beanstalk in three words.
Full of beans!
