General Election 2024

On July 4th the UK goes to the polls to elect a new government and we all get a say who represents us. It’s been five years since our last chance to vote and Daily Info has put together some key dates, useful tools and a list of the candidates to help you approach the choice that lies ahead.

Key Dates

Obviously the 4th is the big date but there are a handful of other deadlines coming up:

18 June 2024 - Register to vote
19 June 2024 - Register for postal voting
26 June 2024 - Apply for a proxy vote
26 June 2024 - Apply for a Voter Authority Certificate

Voter ID

Introduced under this government, you now need ID to vote. There are 22 acceptable forms of ID, including passports, driving licences, Older or Disabled Person's bus passes and Oyster 60+ cards. You can use out-of-date photo ID as long as you look the same. If you don’t have the correct ID you can apply for a free voter authority certificate. Don’t forget your ID, you will not be allowed to vote without it!

Some useful tools

On the Guardian you can see what seat you are in after the boundary changes that have come in since the last parliament.

The BBC have a poll tracker, where you can see how the main parties are currently doing.

Who Can I Vote For? tells you the standing history for each candidate and offers insight into their policies.

And for those who are interested in tactical voting, Get Voting has a search that is useful.
