Daily Info: What’s A Home for Harmony all about?

Emma Bradbury: A Home for Harmony, a new musical play created for young children by People's Theatre Collective, features an endearing tale written by Renata Allen complemented by Joshua Baldwin's engaging music. The story is brought to life by the talented Ruth Curtis as Sam, Rose Charmaine Camacho as Bouncer the Dog, Cleo Quesne as Harmony the Cat and supported by understudy Jenny Johns.

Collaborating with Dogs for Good, The Oxfordshire, Northamptonshire and Warwickshire Library Service, and Home-Start, this production caters to diverse community venues, including libraries, schools, and a shopping centre unit, offering accessibility to diverse families. Focused on a heart-warming animal story, A Home for Harmony explores themes of emotional resilience and confidence-building through social play.

DI: What can audiences expect from this show?

EB: In Summer 2024, we will tour this new musical play with families and young children to help them explore and label their emotions and to build confidence through social play.

DI: How is the play geared to a diverse audience? How have you made this accessible?

EB: The play is designed with inclusivity in mind, featuring accessible elements for audiences with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). These elements include sensory and musical components, Makaton sign language, and non-verbal storytelling, ensuring that every child can enjoy and engage with the performance.

DI: How does the show adapt to move from location-to-location?

EB: The set is made up of freestanding set elements and is completely self sufficient so it can grow and shrink with our venues. It all packs neatly into our tour van and can be easily set up by our company.

DI: Can you sum the show up in three words?

EB: Fun. Interactive. Accessible.

A Home for Harmony is at the Castle Quay in Banbury from Friday 26th to Monday 29th July, before touring local libraries this summer, and more details can be found here.
