A delightful short film by first time writer and director, Jordan O'Shea, The Beautiful Minimal charmed a full audience at the Ultimate Picture Palace last night. The evening began with music from the collective, Bear on a Bicycle - of which O'Shea is a leading member - which was like a snuggly blanket of guitars with a smooth hot chocolate of vocals. The film was then screened, the collective's soundtrack perfectly complimenting the film clips, which were shot using digital cameras, as well as with 35mm Colour Negative film, and cross processed 35mm Slide film on a 'Lomokino' camera. The story of a lonely young girl who uses unique ways of escaping the mundanity of life, comedic relief was provided by the girl's sister, whose main interactions take place with her telephone.
After the film, a short Q&A took place in which O'Shea discussed his tendencies towards escapism and his plans to enter The Beautiful Minimal into film festivals and tour it at independent cinemas around the country.
