Drunk people on a night out can be really funny, so when you throw them into the middle of a full production of the Wizard of Oz, things get even funnier. In Shitfaced Showtime: the Wonderful Wizard of Oz, the five actors have rehearsed a production which is somewhere between the Wizard of Oz and Wicked, using songs from both. The catch is that one member of the professional cast started drinking before the show and is now really drunk. So things are unlikely to go to plan.
And there's no let out for the drinker - two members of the audience have been given horns which they are allowed to honk whenever they think the drunk person is sobering up, to insist that they drink some more.
The result is a hilarious, unpredictable hour of silliness. There is a compere making sure the drinker doesn't injure themselves or the audience, but apart from that, anything goes! On the night I saw it, there was audience interaction, unexpected musical numbers, and lots of swearing. The cast are really talented anyway, and hearing a drunk but very impressive singer perform half a song is quite something to behold.
If you get a chance to go and see Shitfaced Showtime, I'd recommend it thoroughly. Perhaps it'll tour to Oxford one day... It's a great night out -you feel there's no need to get drunk yourself when the person on stage has done it so comprehensively in front of you!
