Everyone who's enjoyed a stroll in Port Meadow has, at some point, crossed Bailey Bridge. However, it's more than just part of the well-worn route between Jericho and The Perch. Bailey Bridge was built in only two hours on a September afternoon in 1947, using modular pieces, an engineering technique that became a crucial part of the Allied war effort. Unlike most bridges built using this technique, Bailey Bridge was never dismantled, and is part of Port Meadow's unique landscape to this day.
