One of Oxford's great hidden features is the Oxford Canal. Completed in 1790, the canal is a 78-mile channel that links Oxford with Bedworth, Banbury and Rugby. Such a fabulous gem requires celebration, and so we have the annual Oxford Canal Festival. Across three days a variety of events will take place including live music, boat trips and a host of family friendly activities.

The weekend begins with a live jam session at the White Hart, with the main proceedings taking place on the Saturday. Live music is provided by the Idle Women, the Hawkmen, the Lock Keepers' Chorus and Seby Ntege. There will be a dog show that includes categories such as waggiest tale, handsomest dog and best sausage catcher. There will also be boat trips, wildlife walks and a fancy dress competition, so plenty for anyone to get involved with.

The weekend climaxes with a Ceilidh dance at St Barnabas Church, which will have music, a bar and crepes. There really is something for everyone in this weekend dedicated to our very own canal. For the Saturday events it should be noted there will be no parking on site so the organisers ask if you could arrive by bike, foot or via public transport.
