Funny, openhearted and utterly charming, Kinky Boots at the New Theatre is a big glitter bomb of fun, guaranteed to leave you buzzing.
The story follows Charlie, the owner of an ailing shoe factory in
Though the show follows the usual up-down-up musical story arc, Kinky Boots is decidedly on the ‘up’ side of things. Sure there is some jeopardy and a touch of conflict to give balance, but for the most part it’s all about singing, dancing and looking fabulous. As one would expect from a professional
Though all the performers were excellent, I simply cannot praise Kayi Ushe, playing Lola, highly enough. The stage simply lit up every time he was on it. I’ve got to tell you, it kind of makes me want to don a frock to see if I could look even a fraction as captivating as Ushe did.
With the highest production values, upbeat music, great dancing and a solid plot, Kinky Boots was a top notch experience. As the final number drew to a close the audience rose to their feet as one, for one of the most decisive standing ovations I have seen. We all left buzzing.
