Grab a bargain, donate unwanted items and raise money for The Oxford Circle. Plus DJs & entertainment throughout the day and a celebrity raffle!
Oxford Town Hall, St Aldate's, Oxford OX1 1DP, Sat 18 January 2020
Jumble Fever is an annual charity jumble sale held by and in aid of The Circle NGO - an organisation of women working together to achieve equality for women and girls in a fairer world. The organisation - founded by Annie Lennox - works across the world, but Oxford has formed its own regional group - The Oxford Circle.
A promotional photoshoot took place on 10th December at Oxford’s famous Botanic Garden to promote Jumble Fever 2020. The shoot featured 8 supporters of The Oxford Circle from Oxford and Oxfordshire. The Botanic Garden was chosen to reflect the theme of Jumble Fever 2020 artwork: jungle. Models wore clothes and accessories which have been donated locally, and which will be available to buy at the sale in January.
Chair of the Oxford Circle, Leanne Duffield said “Jumble Fever is not only a fantastic, fun event but a brilliant way to recycle clothes and combat fast fashion, which is so important as we move into this new decade.”
Circle member and model Marilyn Ching said “I can’t believe the quality and range of clothes that have been donated – there seems to be something for everyone from age zero to clothes for men and women of all sizes. There are prom dresses, designer labels and some really great and fun outfits – but we still need more!”
So if you’ve received something lovely that’s just not quite right for you as a Christmas present, save it to bring along to the event! And you can avoid the madness of the Boxing Day Sales: save your money to spend at the jumble sale instead, safe in the knowledge that it’ll be going to a great cause.
Last year, the sale was held at Botley’s Tap Social and attracted over five hundred people in the community - all there to grab some bargains donated by the people of Oxfordshire, as well as some extra special celebrity donations from Annie Lennox, Livia and Colin Firth. Jumble Fever 2019 raised over £5300 for Nonceba Shelter for Women in Cape Town, South Africa. The shelter is for women who have survived domestic violence or have been victims of human trafficking. The centre offers them a place to stay, individual and family counselling, legal support, access to healthcare, educational programmes and victim empowerment groups.
Jumble Fever 2020 has a bigger venue (Oxford Town Hall), so there’s space to hold more donations and raise even more funds for The Circle NGO’s work. Shoppers can expect clothing for men, women and children including vintage and high end pieces, bric-a-brac, books, toys and more. As with last year, there’ll be DJs & entertainment throughout the day, as well as an exciting celebrity raffle. The sale will take place on Saturday 18th January 11am-4pm. It’s £5 entry fee or if bringing a bag of donations before 2pm, entry is just £1. This year’s celebrity donations, as well as full details of the proceedings at Jumble Fever 2020 will be announced at the start of January.
The Oxford Circle has 20 events planned for 2020 - kicking things off with Jumble Fever and an Intention Setting workshop in January. All events will raise money or awareness for marginalised women around the world.
