We already have reviews on a number of topics, including films, restaurants, plays and more specialised topics such as open top bus tours. If someone has already reviewed something you’re interested in, feel free to add your own opinion (you can do that on the same page as the existing review). If you want to submit a review or article for something that hasn’t yet been written about, fill in the boxes here on the right. You may find it easiest to write your review on your own computer in Word or Notepad and then copy and paste in the text.

Guidelines

What Constitutes a Daily Information review?

About 300 interesting, intelligent and entertaining words answering the questions:

What was it? How was it done? and What did I think of it?

A Daily Info review has to serve as a guide for anybody who might be considering seeing a play, buying a book, going to an exhibition, dining at a restaurant, etc. Consequently, we like them to be:

 

DESCRIPTIVE. Please tell the reader what kind of thing they can expect so they can best work out if they want to get it for themselves. This will vary according to what you’re reviewing: please don’t give away the surprise ending in a film review, but include as much info as you can in a food review (where ‘I liked it’ or ‘I didn’t like it’ doesn’t really help the reader). Comparing and contrasting your experience with other similar experiences many people will be familiar with can also be helpful.

 

BALANCED. Don't be evil! A sadistic review doesn't do the reader/writer/chef/actor (or author) any favours. By all means point out the bad points if there were any - but please remember to include the good points too. There will have been some.

 

READABLE. People's online attention spans can be short. The best reviews are lively, concise and engaging rather than overly academic. It’s not an essay!

What can be reviewed?

Anything. Films, plays, books, restaurants, gardens, hotels, exhibitions, local/student issues, gigs, music releases.... You name it, we’ll almost certainly be interested in it.

What do I get out of it?

The joy of seeing your work published and the warm feeling of having contributed to the welfare of everyone trying to have a good time in Oxford. If you like, you can also email us with a sample of your work and ask to be added to our Official Reviewers List. If you’re on that, you can get free tickets for events.

Can I have something reviewed?

By all means. Email us well in advance at [email protected] with all the details of your show (venue, date, time, company, short synopsis, ticket price, who to contact to ask for reviewers' tickets if your show is not at one of the main Oxford theatres), and we'll send it out to the reviewers' list when the time comes. We'll also put it up in the appropriate free listings section online (or you can – just go to the bottom of the relevant page on the website and enter your event’s details) and, if there’s space, in the printed sheet.
