I was among the lucky who were entertained by Tango Fire direct from Buenos Aires at the New Theatre on Tuesday evening. As promised, the dancing was 'high octane' and was performed by Estamps Porteñas, a troupe of well-trained dancers who astounded us with their elegant and fiery swirls, kicks, flips and dips.
There were a number of passionate pas de deux as well as solos and all-male or all-female numbers, and almost every new song was a feast for the eyes as there were many costume changes with every skirt slit 'up to there' and beyond. The men even sported a few colourful suits of their own.
The dancers were accompanied by the incredible Quatrotango who played as if the house really were on fire and all that remained was the tango.
In this age of Strictly Come Dancing, we've all become armchair critics, and I did hear comments around me such as 'too much of a good thing' and 'it's a bit repetitive', but I was in heaven and wish I could see it all over again.
