Wrap up warm, in scarf and gloves
Button your coat, invite those you love
Tonight you’re going to a fireworks display
Because today is Bonfire Day!

The air outside smells of smoke
Towards the park you walk with the oxford folk
It’s cold! Buy a hot chocolate, lovely and warm
And try the fairground rides, watch people swarm.

It starts! Explosion up in the air!
Into the sky, the bright rockets tear
Catherine wheel whirls around
And colours of the rainbow storm to the ground

See the flames of the bonfire blaze
Feel the heat, let your marshmallows glaze
Play with a sparkler, make shapes in the air
Laugh with your friends, tonight you haven’t a care

Remember remember the fifth of November – what a great night
As you happily walk away from the light
Penny for the guy, your heart starts to cheer
You cannot wait for November next year!

The firework
Sparkler, fountain, candle and wheel.
Light the blue paper. But how does it feel?

To be filled with colour, fire and sound,
Like secrets within you, still, on the ground.

Then….

Faster than lightning, brighter than skies,
A rainbow of magic spins from your eyes,

Rocketing upwards, a dazzle of dreams,
Stars in the making, diamond streams.

Then…

Softer than whispers, silver as smoke,
Silence returns...But here is the joke:

You are the firework. You love and you feel.
You are the sparkler, the candle, the wheel.

Remember, Remember
Dave and George have blamed their cuts on Labour’s gaffes and errors:
The council budget’s slashed by fiscal vandals.
That means we’ve got to all pitch in for this year’s firework party
Looks like it’s cut price Happy Shopper roman candles.

Our bonfire’s only twigs and leaves; whatever we can scavenge,
‘Cos the price of timber’s way beyond our purse.
The sparklers that we’ve found are dim to say the very least
Could the outlook for the 5th be any worse?

Considering that Bonfire Night is there to help remember
How Guy Fawkes tried to raze parliament to the ground,
Perhaps we ought to take a different tack with things this year
And raise the spirit of the country all around.

A bonfire made of bankers’ bonuses and fat cat pay would blaze
Like a beacon, to express our hate and rage
For those selfish souls who lined their nests with money that was stripped
From the public purse and working people’s wage.

A dummy sat upon the fire should sport a Gordon mask
For the parlous state he’s left this country in.
And second flip-flopped homes could add more fuel to the fire
To remind the politicians of their sin.

As Ark Royal hits the scrap heap and the forces lose resources
They could make a contribution to our spree.
Old munitions make great rockets, putting fireworks in the shade
And a first strike on the Square Mile equals glee!

Let the skies light up with fireworks to express our righteous ire,
Let us hear the politicians’ sorry squawks.
Let fire rain down on Parliament and burn it to the ground,
Let us raise our glasses to the hero Fawkes.
Bang bang bang.
Fizz fizz fizz.
Bang bang whizz fizzle pop.


(Well, it is a firework poem! :)
Fizz, crack, bang, boom!
A jumping stir sends tummies tumbling.
Dinner plate eyes widen to spy
At the supernova slow show.
Burning briefly. Fade into black.

See the glowing grins shining
By the bonfire's warm invite
Toffee apple smiles and hot cider bellies
Huddle for warmth with shuffle feet dancing
Two pairs of socks and wooly ear pom-poms
ensure the cold don't chill yer bones.

Remember, remember.
We do so every year.
A bright explosion of joy for the darkening nights.
As we watch him crumble and burn,
Draw closer to the magical embers
Filled with a thousand tales,
And ballads as yet unsung.

Colourful autumn celebration;
Nature's phoenix flare of dying delight
To keep us warm and safe together.
Close to feast on our harvest's plenty
Until midwinter frost has been and gone.
I must check Daily Info and see what's going on.
Oh! Fireworks on the 6th,
I thought I'd missed the fun.

Where's my keys,my coat, my hat?
Animals in and fed?
where is that darn cat its usually on the bed?

The Wicker Man is burning, the flames lick up his chest,
his face looks like he's gurning,
he doesn't look his best.

walking home at the end I smile at all the hilarity
I clutch my toy and Candy Floss
and think well done...
all this and its for charity.
down by the river where the green grass grows
there was this little girl fishing with her toes,
along came her mother and said oh no not your toes!!!!!
I drank gunpowder tea. My tongue curled in on itself
and I laughed, coughed your name, closed my eyes
and saw sparks filling the sky
at the back of my eyes –

I saw the sky raise its itching back, howling.

and on Headington Hill, we spat our names in wintergreen,
in little dots of light, in welts, midnight fog

and filled our lungs with bonfires.
Hear the whistles, hear the pops:
Fireworks all rock!
Lighting up the darkest night,
Such a splendid sight!

[Chorus]: Fifth November is on us again! x 4

Fireworks are flying high.
Fires are burning by
Bangers cooking on a grill,
Where's the autumn chill?

Wear some wellies, and some gloves.
Don't forget a hat.
Live the night with those you love
And forget your spats.
They whizz and flash and spin and pop,
They go so high until they drop.
They make a circle, they make a star,
They go so high, they go so far.

It smells like smoke,
it makes me croak.
I feel like a slice
of very cold ice.

My feet are numb,
and it was tremendously fun.
Red and green and purple and blue,
I wish that I could come there too!
tantalisingly rising on the skyline
in the ascendency with its shine,

a beacon of promise
on youth’s horizon

morning litter-strewn and later,
sun set on this year’s funfair

left as you were, without a spark –
growing older and in the dark.
Will it be clear
Will it be warm
Will it be cold
and kick up a storm

Lets put on our wellies
our coats and our gloves
Head off to South Parks
with the ones that we love

Stand next to the bonfire
Watch fireworks bright
Hear the bangs and the frazzles
and squeal with delight

All too soon over
The fire has shrunk
There's hot dogs to be eaten
and hot chocolate to be drunk
Bang! Go the fireworks,
Down come the sparks,
‘Oooh’ say the people, watching in South Parks!

Round goes the Catherine wheel,
Round and round,
Sparks are falling on the ground!

Sizzle goes the sausages
Warming up the crowd
Bonfire night is always LOUD!!!
Fireworks, fireworks, quick come and see
fireworks, fireworks, for you and me.

The air is cold fresh and clear
wrap up warm - it's just once a year.

What you will see is bright and new
bangs explosive, colourful to view.

The big fire amazing not meek,
can you feel the warmth it gives upon your cheek?

The ultimate night for all to see
it's here for all - yes you and me.
There would be no bonfire that night
None for me, anyway
I was in trouble.
I had told Mabel Bibby that dad called her Marble Titty
And Mabel Bibby was running the church bonfire
And I had told Brown Owl that dad called her Brown Knickers
And Brown Owl was helping Mabel Bibby run the bonfire (along with the brownies)
So I had to look out of the window
I could see Marble Titty and Brown Knickers,
and dad being nice to them.
I could see quite a few other people too; church wardens, the choir mistress, the organist,and that lady who did the flowers
I probably would not tell them their names
as I did not want to miss out on the Blackpool Illuminations Trip in Decemeber.
Smell the smell of burnt sausages
People ready for the show
Children holding flashing lights
Feel the tension as the first firework is lit

5, 4, 3, 2, 1.

Fireworks, fireworks sparkle and pop
Fireworks bang and give you a shock
Colour explodes over the sky
Fireworks, fireworks fly so high

Red noses and pink cheeks
As people say their sad goodbyes
That is it for another year
Going home now in good cheer
