Sausage and mash would have been just right
To round off a splendid Bonfire Night.
But the Big Bang's closed and Max has left
And Oxford's banger lovers feel bereft.
The Big Bang Theory's off the air
As I pen this rhyme from my comfy chair.
Thursday nights are less than satisfactory
Without Sheldon and the gang at the Cheesecake Factory.
There's always Bang! if you fancy some gen
It's a science magazine from the women and men
Of Oxford Uni. Ground-breaking and fundamental
If you're interested in anything experimental.
Drums, I suppose, are good for a bang.
Or anvils in an opera full of Sturm und Drang.
But the very best things down the ‘loud noise' road
Are based on gunpowder and primed to explode.
So: a bang is a laugh, but a big bang's better,
At a firework display in your scarf and sweater,
You can keep your drums ‘cos I like my noise
Excitingly created from explosive toys.
