Beyond limp. Hardly anyone in the 3/4 full cinema laughed - kids or adults. There were audible sighs of relief and the sound of wakening at the end though. Grim, grim and grim again.
The one man disaster strikes again, this time in France. Mr Bean, the unworldly anti hero we love so much, wins a beach holiday to Cannes, and as expected nothing goes quite according to plan. Rowan Atkinson obviously nods in the direction of Jacques Tatie in "Mr Hulot's Holiday" and the movie is riddled with visual gags including the hilarious improvised opera death scene performance in a French Market and the wonderful "Stella Artois" reference scene.
I saw this in Amsterdam and the audience was in stitches. It does not disappoint though I still prefer "the disaster movie" which had more of an actual plot. Achingly funny in parts and clever in others this is a great movie for all of us who need a bit of a cheering boost. Enjoy !
