The Spirit is one of the most widely acclaimed Graphic Novels ever written. It is painted in broad reds, whites and blacks. The film is painted in a similar style.
Gabriel Macht is not a name I had heard of prior to this film, but I feel it is one we will get to know better after a solid and interesting performance. The Spirit does not lend itself to subtle acting, quite the opposite in fact, and Samuel L Jackson is having an enormous amount of fun along with Scarlett Johanssen, who is incredibly sexy throughout.
Eva Mendes gives a cheeky and powerful performance as Sans Sherriff and the supporting cast, made up of familar faces (Edgar from 24) and complete newbies, all doing what they are intended to.
If you are a fan of superheroes, graphic novels and cinematography The Spirit is a must; if you're not, maybe give it a miss.
