This isn't at all bad, if you can get your head round the idea that the true story of Beowulf was that he crashed his space-ship into a lake and inadvertently brought Grendel and his mother with him. Very good design detail on eighth century Norway, very enjoyable monsters with liberal splatterings of gore and much dismemberment.
Sound performance in the lead from Jon Cazaviel as the Outlander, and pretty sound from John Hurt as Hrothgar. Less successful performance from Sophia Myles as the love interest, her eyes popping out of her head on so many occasions she appears to suffer from excess of thyroid, and from the good-looking but rather weedy bloke who played the rival male lead.
But great fun and well worth a look.
