I left the cinema with an overall feeling of bemusement. I loved McQueen's last movie, Hunger, so I couldn't wait to see Shame. But the hype around the movie is just ridiculous. Yes there are some stunning scenes where Fassbender shows why he is considered such a great actor, but there are just as many flaws which ultimately give the film a feeling of a soft porn movie cobbled together as art. It lacks subtlety. Can anybody explain to me the role of Fassbender's super irritating boss or the appearance of the Faulty Towers' Manuel-like waiter in the dating scene or the scene breaking running sequences... or am I just getting too old and cynical? Still I suppose compared to the current competition it's better than the rest!
