With Ken Loach you can usually predict the unpredictable. This is a wee gem of a movie. Don't be put off like I was initially by the Trainspotting-like promo. For the first 40 mins it's business as usual: gritty realism from Glasgow's underbelly which we've all seen probably a bit too much of in recent years. Then the film turns on its head...and has you laughing out loud.
On boarding a minibus full of nuns, one of the actors is heard to say " f.... sake, a bunch of nuns", and his colleague replies "sorry about that ladies - there's nothing we can do with these Protestants"...and so on.
If you like the style of Bill Forsyth's movies Gregory's Girl or Local Hero then this film is for you.
