Surpassingly beautiful to look at, and a profoundly faithful rendering of the novel. Life of Pi has all the ingenious imaginative and emotional depth of the book while gifting you with unforgettably wonderful images. Readers will remember that the initial scenes of the hero and Richard Parker on the lifeboat are apt to be distressingly violent, but Ang Lee has cunningly caused all the gory bits to take place under a tarpaulin so that you can fearlessly take your moppets to see this. The CGI tiger is extraordinarily beautiful and clever but entirely distinguishable from the real tiger - however this is the only production flaw. Suraj Sharma, who plays Pi as a young man, is superb, as is Irfan Khan, who plays the older Pi, and the denouement is almost as cathartic and moving as in the book. See it before it goes from the big screen.
