Unexpectedly delightful and heart-warming for a zombie movie. I won't say that it had the rejuvenating feel-good properties of It's a Wonderful Life, but we certainly left the cinema feeling lighter of heart and as if there was hope for the human race after all.
Zombie movies are famously adept at providing telling metaphors for contemporary social and cultural issues. This one is clever, funny, witty, and delicious without at all losing grip on the disgusting realities of zombie un-life. It's also a really inventive re-working of Shakespeare, with our own Nicholas Hoult somehow contriving to be believable, cute, and sympathetic as a romantic lead, even after he has killed the heroine's boyfriend and consumed his brains. Quite an achievement I think you'll agree. Well worth a look.
