Daily Info staff aren't known for our golfing prowess but when a bar-meet-indoor-crazy-golf pops up we definitely have to pop on our visor, grab a club and head over to try it out. Originating in Manchester, Junkyard Golf has spread slowly out across the UK and has now taken up residence in the Westgate shopping centre, bringing a combination of tasty cocktails and the kind of golf we can all play: the crazy variety.

There are three courses to choose from, each with their own theme. Bozo is all about the circus and terrifying clowns, at Gary you'll find cars and other 'auto-junk' and Pablo is a jungle-themed course. We sided with Pablo, sounding the simplest and least likely to give It flashbacks. The course has an Aztec temple, a pair of fighting bears AND a volcano, so it seemed the perfect choice for a first taste of Junkyard Golf.

This is an activity that is surprisingly fun. There is a trendy boisterous atmosphere; aided by a groovy soundtrack of exceedingly good soul and disco music. The courses are entertaining, complete with pun-packed course names like 'Bitch Don't Kill My Tribe' and 'Love in a Soapless Place' (yes this one had a bath in the middle of it). I will confess I was not the best at this course, my partner besting me on all bar one of the holes. The difficultly level of Pablo is pitched just about right, and each hole has a cheeky inventiveness that adds to the good vibe Junkyard Golf are fostering. The course at times feel cramped: the need to fit three courses into the space leads to some sacrifice of comfort. But it rarely proves too much of an issue.

The staff are all very friendly and helpful. They welcome you in and make you feel comfortable, raising the standard of the establishment considerably. Junkyard Golf is a lot of fun, as effective as a bar (thanks to that killer soundtrack and the tasty cocktails) as it is as a crazy golf course. If you are looking for an activity that is a bit different in the centre of town this would be a good pick.

The basics you need to know about Junkyard Golf: each course consists of nine holes, you can golf between 12.20 and 11pm, and each round is £10.50 each. For two of us it took about 45-minutes including a cheeky stop at the bar in the centre of the course. It also has to be noted that under 18s are only welcome before 7pm between Sunday and Wednesday. The rest of the time this is a full-on over 18s only bar.
