Nestled in the heart of Botley's industrial park, the surroundings of Tap Social don't initially indicate a great drinking spot. Once you've gone beyond their rather modest exterior you find a fabulous venue. The decor is fun, with various items of furniture and tools attached to the walls, with the expansive space leading to a bar complete with some seriously cool lighting. And here were two of the reasons why the Tap Social has become such a success: good beer and great staff. The bar staff were friendly and knowledgeable, successfully able to take us through a journey with their alcohol. My barmaid knew her stuff and infused her own tastes into describing the beverages that showed a love for the product that Tap Social produces. There are a lot of different beers on tap, giving a great variety to choose from. I was given a tasting of four different beers, settling on a pint of Bleeding Numbskull (the beers come with fabulous names), a peach sour. This felt like a nice middle point between a cider (my personal beverage of choice) and an ale: an easily drinkable beer, with a nicely sharp aftertaste.
There's a lot of charm at the Tap Social, with an upstairs space that can be opened up for bigger events. I particularly liked a corner of the room with sofas and books; a mini-library within the brewery. It is easy to see how this turns into the coffee house it becomes during the day. The only element that belies the somewhat pop-up nature of the venue are the toilets, which have a thrown-together feel. They are functional even if they aren't so hospitable.
The acoustics were particularly exceptional, with the Tap Social acting as the perfect venue for the event Daily Info attended. A screening of Akira, courtesy of another
Tap Social has a roster of events well worth checking out. From micro-festivals and markets through to open nights, with guest DJs and scrumptious food provided by local food trucks, each week offers a new reason to visit Botley. In short, Daily Info loved Tap Social and will be visiting again, for a venue and company that keeps going from strength to strength.
