Nestled at the heart of the
We arrived and nestled ourselves in the back room, out of the way and surrounded by a host of toys that make up most of the content of this room, perfect for our young daughter to play with. Lily's feels immediately welcoming, even if its intimate nature gives the initial fear that things may be too cramped for a young family. We needn't have worried, as the staff were immensely friendly, amused by my daughter's antics. My partner and I both chose the cooked breakfast, with local sausage, eggs, bacon, tomato, mushrooms and toast. I went for a hot chocolate, while my partner had a tea. Our daughter ate a selection of items from our plates.
The food came out speedily and was, frankly, delicious. There was just the right amount of each component to be filling but also to leave us wanting more, and everything was cooked just right. Sometimes a cooked breakfast can be a tad heavy, but that wasn't the case here. The mushrooms were marvellous and everything had a farm-fresh quality to it. The sausages were outstanding, hints of herb that made them perfect. My daughter agreed, requesting more of them (as well as the mushrooms). All in all, this was one of the best cooked breakfasts I've had since moving to the area several years ago.
We couldn't possibly not try some of the cake lovingly presented at the front of the counter. I went for a wedge of lemon meringue cake while my partner went for a slice of the coffee and walnut cake, a personal favourite of hers. And goodness, the lemon meringue was great. A huge amount of meringue nestled atop very good lemon curd, it had a professional quality but felt homemade in the best way possible. The coffee and walnut cake had a suitably nutty goodness to it that my partner appreciated, but I couldn't help but spy her envious looks towards my cake.
Every community needs the perfect location for a weekend brunch, one that reflects the character of the area and offers exactly what locals and visitors are looking for. This is Lily's Tea Room. It is quaint, welcoming, full of local produce, and produces very good food that retains the best elements of homemade food whilst also being just slick enough to keep visitors happy. I will certainly be returning soon to try more of their delicious cakes and gorgeous breakfasts.
