We come to the Butchers most Mondays and Thursdays - it's a really nice pub, friendly staff and welcoming atmosphere.
We recently held our club's Christmas meal there, the food and service were really top notch.

I thoroughly recommend a visit - I think it's the best pub in Headington.

The Butcher's Arms is pretty well hidden in the side streets of Headington. It's a little tricky to get to by car due to one way streets and dead ends but once one knows the route its fine. Parking nearby can also be pretty hard as the few road spaces are popular and the majority permit holders only.

My partner and I enjoyed a couple of decent pints. As a Fuller's pub they - of course - have London Pride, but also around five other Fuller beers including the delicious Honey Dew - a personal favourite of mine, and seasonal special Brewers Bragg also rather good.

The food is a traditional pub menu and rather nicely cooked. We shared garlic bread (though on this occasion the kitchen had run out of garlic so we were offered cheese bread instead) - delicious, though perhaps a little pricey at £3.50 for the usual garlic version.

For mains I had beer battered fish and chips; a decent size portion - not as big as some but tasty and great value at under £8.00. My partner had the breaded mushrooms, an unusual option for a main dish but equally lovely. We both felt the mushroom dish could have benefited from a couple of extra chips but a small complaint and one easily rectified (on this occasion because I could not eat all of mine!).

The real surprise though was that this is a lovely pub, tastefully decorated, clean and suitably busy. The service was incredibly polite and efficient, never over-bearing and personal too, a lovely change from the increasingly 'gastro robot' approach often suffered elsewhere.

Simply lovely.
