Residing on the outskirts of Wootton and a short drive from the centre of
There is a depth to food choices at The Greyhound beyond burgers that was highlighted by the choice of starters. Feeling adventurous I went for the fried pork, chicken, prawn and beef dim sum, which were culinary perfection. A scrumptious start, I only wished there had been more to eat. But it just left me hungry for our next course.
For our mains my wife and I sided with burgers. She picked the beef burger with pulled pork whilst I went for a slider board, allowing a full taste of the range the restaurant had to offer. The children's menu has all the firm staples a pub has to offer for younger diners, with my daughter making the difficult choice between sausage and mash and chicken goujons. The goujons that arrived were agreeable and wolfed down with vigour by her.
Our burgers arrived soon after and our choices met our needs well. A juicy beef burger was matched with meaty pulled pork, highlighting the high quality of meat served at The Greyhound. The huge corn on the cob that came with this dish proved popular with both my wife and my daughter. My burger sliders were just as scrumptious, even if it felt like a dish that would work better as a sharer (I think I may have cheated the menu here). I began with the lamb burger (delicious, succulent and expertly cooked) before moving on to the pork and chorizo one (my least favourite due to an overpowering taste for such a small delicacy). It was all capped nicely by a bacon and cheese beef burger that left my hunger sated and my taste buds craving another visit. The chunky chips that came with the meal were the perfect mix of crunchy exterior and fluffy interior to make this a mostly fabulous meal. Regrettably we were full after our mains, so will have to return to try one of The Greyhound's scrumptious sounding desserts (I have my eye on the hot waffle with toffee sauce, caramelised banana and honeycomb ice cream).
There are other qualities to recommend The Greyhound. The ease of access makes it a fun trip out of the city and family friendly leaning makes it perfect to bring your children to. There is an expansive outdoor garden for warmer days, with a static tractor positioned in the back alongside some swings that are well suited to keep younger members of your party entertained. The staff are friendly and helpful, with a genuine excitement at the food they serve. Overall the atmosphere coupled with its cuisine makes The Greyhound an outstanding venue.
