The Masons Arms is an early twentieth century pub hidden in the delightful splendour of Headington Quarry.
A fairly local's pub with lots of mainly males drinking, smoking and playing darts. The family run free house has an excellent range of Ales as well as Belgian beers. Best place to be is in the garden, a rather pretty grass area set below the pub itself though slightly dwarfed by a decent but not terribly attractive large function room at the bottom of the garden.
There is a heated decking area (at pub level) with a couple of tables but this is largely occupied by smokers. Aunt Sally is available.
On my last visit I had an awesome pint of ‘Essex Border' from Growler Brewery. The prices are significantly lower than my locals in the north of Oxford; Cowley or the city centre.
Oxford's CAMRA Pub of the Year 2004; 2005 and 2010, the pub also has the first Oxford brewery since the closure of Morrells in 1999, The Old Bog Brewery. I've not managed to actually taste any of the on-site brewed beers though as they are rarely available. Annual beer festival takes place each September.
