After a pilot in December last year and a successful crowdfunding campaign, Indie Oxford's Market Place is back by popular demand. The Covered Market store provides retail space for small independent businesses to showcase their wares in central Oxford. The brightly coloured shopfront is hard to miss, helping to further revitalize the Covered Market, and inside, eye-catching displays offer a diverse range of products from businesses united under the Indie Oxford banner.
A Rosie Life and the Oxford Etsy collective offer arty gifts and accessories, while Jampuppy and Jericho Design House have printed homewares on show. Audiophiles can dig through crates of Truck Store's vinyl and foodies are catered for in shape of pickled goods from Cranston Pickles, or something sweeter from Warborough Honey. There's also Turkish beachwear from Hilly Jo, ceramics from Emily Marston, jewellery from Amy Surman's Oxford Bead Shop and much more.
The space is vibrant, creative, and exactly what central Oxford has been crying out for in what is an increasingly tumultuous time for local retailers. The Market Place is here until December (ticking all the right boxes as a Christmas shopping destination), but the duo behind the project, Rosie Jacobs and Anna Munday, are already weighing up options for the longer term. Workshops and events at the store are also in the pipeline, so keep your eyes and ears peeled for new developments.
