My first visit to Annie’s Tea Room at Thrupp came as a welcome break during a Sunday afternoon walk along the Oxford Canal.
The choice of food is simple and unfussy. On the day that I went, there were five sandwich options. There was a slight wait after ordering, but this was due to the fact that sandwiches are freshly made. My cheddar and Branston on wholemeal bread was just the ticket. As for value, lunch for three (three rounds of sandwiches, fresh coffee and a soft drink) came to just under £10.
For those more self-indulgent moments, Annie’s also serve cream teas and there is a tempting array of cake.
Despite catering for walkers (and their dogs), the café was scrupulously clean. Service was prompt and friendly and customers have the option of eating inside or outside (weather permitting).
Although Annie’s is open every day during the summer, it’s probably worth checking the opening times during the winter months, when it's only open on weekends.
