Open all day and serving divine food for brunch, lunch and dinner, the Old Post Office in
The expansive space of the interior lends an open atmosphere, with large windows bathing the restaurant in warm sunlight (we visited on a particularly gorgeous day). We picked our seats near the back so we could be out of the way with our toddler. Perusing the menu we decided on pizza for all as well as a baked Camembert to start. Food ordered, we could bask in the friendly surroundings. There is a relaxed ambience to the Old Post Office, one that survived our rambunctious child. The staff are friendly, taking our order quickly but without pestering us. They were also very accommodating and were more than happy to change elements of our order to fit our individual needs.
Our starter came quickly, along with a kids' sized margherita. The cheese was a gooey, scrumptious heaven, served with ample toast for dunking. The pizza seemed huge for our daughter but she went about the process of demolishing it with efficiency. Cheese consumed, our mains arrived quickly afterwards. My Bolognese pizza was gorgeous, exactly what I wanted. The topping had a rich taste, with a base that was satisfyingly thin without being too soft. We paired our mains with sides of fries and halloumi fries which were both great, especially the halloumi ones (a trend I am happy to see continue). My wife went for the pollo bianco on a tomato base as a calzone, which was enormous! This, however, did not compromise the fillings or the taste of it as the calzone packed with flavour. It even came with extra sauce which pleased my partner.
The only downside on such generously portioned mains is that we were left with no room to try any of the mouth-watering puddings. My previous visits mean I can recommend the chocolate brownie, white chocolate cheesecake and the sticky toffee pudding, to pick but three off the selection. Really the menu is so packed with great options that you'll be planning your next visit to the Old Post Office as you finish your meal.
This restaurant is indeed a good pick for whatever meal you need. Be it a brunch to start your day, a light lunch to refuel or a more expansive meal. The food at the Old Post Office is great, complete with a warm, welcoming atmosphere and friendly, attentive staff. I can not recommend this place enough as one to visit.
