"Hamburgers! The cornerstone of any nutritious breakfast." Jules, Pulp Fiction
How good is Craft Burger? So good that is worthy of shoehorning in a quote from the mighty Pulp Fiction. An effortlessly cool restaurant in Headington that not only sells fabulous burgers, but is welcoming to families. The restaurant is well worth a visit, even if they do not, as of yet, offer burgers for breakfast. But we are surely reaching that point where the burger becomes a core element of our diets (hurrah!)
Upon entering Craft Burger the first thing noticed is the outstanding music playing, a perfect mix of 70s soul & disco. With artists such as The Temptations, The Jacksons and James Brown, it creates a charming atmosphere and brought a smile to my face, which was broadened by the range of burgers on offer. From vegetarian options, through pulled pork and to the more traditional beef burgers, Craft Burger offers a diversity of choice that should suit anyone's tastes.
My partner and I take our seat and I chose a bacon & cheese burger, with a side order of mac & cheese, while my co-reviewer went for a chicken, bacon and pesto burger, with a side of onion rings. We pair our burgers with chocolate milkshakes each, having been informed they are made with ice cream. Our food comes speedily and we tuck in. My bacon & cheese burger is cooked to perfection, complemented by smoked cheddar cheese and picked onions on top. The chicken, bacon and pesto burger is a refreshing twist on the normal chicken burger: the flavour of the pesto brings a light edge to it, not often how you'd describe a burger. The mac & cheese is a tasty addition, freshly prepared. And once our meals are completed I find room for a delicious dessert, a salted caramel (great that this is still so popular) cheesecake. The only element of our meal that isn't outstanding is the onion rings, which although tasty, are sadly nothing special.
As well as great food and fabulous music the staff are all lovely. Welcoming, attentive and friendly, they make sure our needs are met. They are great with children and help to add to the relaxed atmosphere that Craft Burger is cultivating. The restaurant is very accessible for prams and wheelchairs and has fine facilities for families with young children. I peeked over at the children's meal on the other table and it looks just right for them.
Opening just over six months ago, Craft Burger feels like it has quickly established the elements of an exceptional restaurant. Great food, a diverse menu, friendly staff and a fabulous music selection, there is little I can fault with my first visit at this restaurant. How good is Craft Burger? So good I can end my review as I began it, with a reference to Pulp Fiction and the wonderful Dusty Springfield (who was also played during our visit).
