Fat Lil's had already livened up our little market town for years with its vibrant music scene but since last autumn we have also been blessed with its adjacent restaurant.

It has now become a firm favourite of locals and is a most welcome addition to the town, with Tex-Mex food which is always fresh and tasty and which offers a respite from the usual suspects. Something Witney sorely needed and which most of us foodies are grateful for. Service is always efficient, helpful and extremely friendly; portions are more than generous and the standards of cooking are high. Tex-Mex can sadly too often be synonymous with greasy, fatty food, but Fat Lil's somehow manages to escape these pitfalls and though one always leaves feeling fully sated, there is no sense of imminent heart failure. I am told the "Culo Fuego" challenge (hot sauce) can however leave one rather on the sweaty side :)

I would particularly recommend the gambas (delicious, moist and succulent), the carnitas burritos, the prawn fajitas and the Pizza "La Reine" (ask for it to be cooked with an Egg a la "Paul", the energetic and gregarious owner!) for that little extra je ne sais quoi. Possibly one of the best pizzas I have had since living in Britain and far closer to the orginal Italian dish than most. Light, crispy with a rich and flavoursome tomato base and very moreish; pizza which has not been messed about with but which retains its classic authentic simplicity.

Also on the menu are great salads (chorizo and chicken especially yummy), lovely burgers and hot dogs, fruit smoothies and milkshakes - and if you still have room for dessert, the profiterolles aren't too shabby either.

The atmosphere is lively but laid back and the decor modern and stylish. It's perfect for a pre-gig dinner or a leisurely Sunday brunch. Their Sunday afternoon offer (4-9pm) is excellent value. A roving taco van is in the offing too apparently - so hopefully their delicious offerings will be available on the hoof soon for all of us devotees!

I must admit Hubby and I have somehow become a little "addicted" to the place: good food, great people and very kind on the wallet too. What's not to like?
