V for Vendetta is one of the most subversive films I've seen this year. The Wachowski brothers have reinterpreted the premise of The Matrix in wholly blatant fashion, offering us another view of the world, and a choice.
Instead of offering us the 'red' or the 'blue' pill, they offer us a range of experiences, the 'artist's use of lies' as a means of us discovering our own truth about what's happening in the world today. We are led through this process via 'V', a creation of the madness of the military, state and religious right. The metaphors abound, as do the symbolism and warnings.
Evil abounds where good people remain silent and where our fear and insecurities rule. Where the state and mulitnationals use the information age to ''know us' and use this knowledge to manipulate our thoughts and fears.
Go and watch V for Vendetta and see what you will.
