I loved this book. The beautiful imagery and cast of richly painted characters make this so much more than just an adventure story, and the vivid descriptions of Brazil and the Amazon rainforest have left me itching to visit myself.
A new genre of book, this 'eco-thriller' has a strong environmental message running throughout - and with proceeds from the sale supporting rainforest conservation efforts, the reader too is able to do their part.
As well as being a page-turner, Jabujicaba is beautifully written; the style is evocative of Latin American literature: fantastical and lusciously descriptive. The characters are charismatic and multi-dimensional - flawed, but at the same time strangely likeable. From Carmen, the spirited heroine to Roberto, the corrupt politician - all have hidden depths, skillfully revealed over the course of the story.
