Its difficult to really grasp what this film is trying to do. It puts you though the whole gamit of emotions, only to leave you feeling empty and cheated. There's some good acting, but how many films have we now seen taking the mickey out of Hollywood and its dysfunctional parts? It's usually helpful if the narrative doesn't feel like it's being made up as it goes along, and to throw in a heavy incest theme, laced with hallucinatory death and fire to hold it all together suggests than Cronenberg may just have decided to opt for the paranormal excuse to get him out of jail.
Very annoyingly entertaining nevertheless!
