Oxford's pubs are almost as renowned as its colleges. Many will have heard of the Eagle and Child, home of the Inklings, or the Turf Tavern, famous for being the hang-out of the cast of Harry Potter, and where Bill Clinton infamously "did not inhale" during an evening of carousing at the pub.
We've collated two kinds of pub crawl for you to try - the first is the traditional 'loads of pubs in one night' strategy, perfect for visitors to the city wanting to pack in as much as possible, and the other is a more laid back approach, collections of pubs with similar themes to visit and tick off over a longer period of time.
Pub Crawls
Discover the historic streets and infamous pubs of Oxford with Daily Information's comprehensive pub crawls guide. Above is a full map containing all our chosen destinations - brave crawlers could attempt making their way from the Rose and Crown in Jericho to the Magdalen Arms in Cowley, picking their favourite stops in between, but we recommend choosing one of Jericho, the City Centre, the Cowley Road area, or Headington to avoid doing more walking than drinking! These maps are printable so you can take them with you on your way around Oxford, and cross off the pubs as you go. If you want to add another element to your crawl, take a look at the rules of Pub Golf! Disclaimer: no actual golfing skills required...
Pubs by theme
If a night of rushing between pubs isn't your idea of fun, and you'd rather discover lots of new pubs but don't know where to start, our themed pub guide may be just what you need! We've grouped pubs from all over the city and beyond together by theme - work your way through the list of your choice to uncover some of Oxford's hidden gems.
